Welcome to Floriana. No other cruisers could get permission to go, so we didn't ask. |

When you’re in the Galapagos, you’re going to see marina iguanas, tortoises, turtles, boobies, and sea lions just by virtue of being there. All of that stuff is scenic and it’s an important part of Earth that is well taken care of here. But, what is special about our island tour happens to be when Placido takes us to his property and hacks off a bunch of bananas for us. It’s when we share our afternoon with him and his son, Joseph. The flat tire we get in the middle of nowhere reminds me of our time in Panama, a month earlier, when Emily and I pushed a taxi the last fifty meters to the fuel pump. We begin to understand that a lot of the world isn’t as professional or sterile as home, and that’s just fine. |
